About the series „Schengen“

Schengen is a Luxembourgian wine-growing village bordering Germany and France. Here, in the center of Europe, the agreement to abolish intra-European border controls was once signed. Ruth Stoltenberg grew up in this border triangle in the 1960-70s and was interested in what influence this opening of the borders had, after so long, on the different cultures and lifestyles of people from the three nations.

Do houses, front gardens, public buildings or squares reveal national identities? Or does this region, characterized by viticulture and agriculture, have its very own transnational character?

This work has won national and international awards and has been published as a book by Kehrer Verlag.
