In 1950, Hausen went to the BiKl-Schule in Düsseldorf for 2 years; he became a student of Chargesheimer, who taught photography with a focus on photograms, portraits and subject photography. He lived as a freelance photographer and filmmaker in Kaiserslautern and taught photography to the Americans.
Countless awards at home and abroad honoured his achievements. From 2000 onwards, he used the computer technology of the time for his free artistic photography. Hans Günter Hausen died at the age of 77 years.
