Natalya Resnik

(born 1981 in Perm, Russia) has lived in Germany since 2011. She studied design and philosophy in Russia and completed the master class of the Ostkreuz School of Photography. She participated in Nikon NOOR Masterclass in Berlin, has been shortlisted for Vonovia Award for photography. In her work, Resnik combines themes such as old age, family, loss and trauma with a conceptual-documentary approach. She has published three photo books (Secrets, 2014, Looking for my father, 2016, and Hope, 2019). Her work has been featured in exhibitions and festivals around the world.

The Old World

How will people live in the year 2050? In “The Old World“ I am trying to imagine what our society could look like in the future. Probably we will encounter a completely different society. We will be surrounded by older waiters and waitresses, flight attendants and DJs. No more young supermodels, but beautiful women with grey hair will smile at us from advertising billboards. Old age as a phenomenon is going through a new Renaissance (the hashtag #greynaissance is one of the popular ones on Instagram) and this is a reflection of the trend in our society.
And this is not a surprise – ageing of population in Europe and Asia (the so-called “old world”) will continue. In 2017, I started working on my project “The Old World”: I photographed beautiful elderly women posing with dignity with the landscape or cityscape as a background. Their classical poses remind us of Italian painting of the Renaissance.
